InnoEnergy that a major European project of the EIT (European Institute of Technology) financed in collaboration with a number of European companies and universities. The main aim of the thesis is the development of new magnetic materials with extremely low coercivity and high magnetization identify with combinatorial materials research. Development processes and methods of combinatorial materials research is an important element of the argument program.

Our group is part of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the Angstrom Laboratory, Uppsala University, Sweden. We work with thin-film materials deposited mainly magnetron sputtering and molecular beam techniques. The PhD Scholarship Opportunity project will include part of the InnoEnergy and participants from the Department of Materials, Department of Engineering Geology and ABB. As a doctoral student in InnoEnergy you spend at least 6 months in another European universities and schools in research courses and participate in various locations in Europe.

The British Society of Aesthetics proposes to award one Ph.D. studentship full-time maintenance grant of £13,590 (or within the City of London or the Metropolitan Police district: £15,590) plus tuition fees up to a maximum value of £3,500 from September 2011 for up to 3 years. The studentship is designed to support a promising philosopher in aesthetics and the philosophy of art, by enabling him or her to pursue full time doctoral research. Candidates for the studentship should already be accepted on to a Ph.D. programme at a British university at the time of application, to research on a subject that falls within the remit of the British Society of Aesthetics. It is a condition of application to the BSA that: (a) candidates are eligible to apply to the AHRC’s PhD studentship scheme [2], (b) they have done so if a studentship is available, and (c) they have applied to any other funding schemes available at the relevant institution. If any such applications are successful, the amount of the BSA scholarship, if awarded, will be reduced by the amount of the other award(s).
The successful candidate will be expected to complete a PhD, or be very close to completion, by the end of the award period, and to provide brief progress reports to the Society at the end of each year. construction and inference would also be investigated to ensure model validity. The Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) at the University of Leeds is a leader in clinical trials and was one of the first 26 units of clinical trials in the United Kingdom, the full registration status of grant the UK Clinical Research Collaboration. The Unit conducts national and international randomized clinical trials in a variety of clinical areas (cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke, mental health, obesity, skin, musculoskeletal disorders and care of elderly people). The CTRU has a strong portfolio of methodological research related to clinical trials.

We are looking for enthusiastic and talented people to appoint a well-established team of 15 statisticians to join the support of the work of the Clinical Trials Unit. As a senior statistician, medical, you are in a multidisciplinary team of statisticians, programmers, clinicians, health economists, researchers and managers of health care in negotiating work and comes in a variety of stakeholders are statistical activities, including preparation of funding applications, design, implementation and analysis of clinical studies. In addition, as a senior statistician, will lead the strategic level of statistics and statistical measurement in the design and implementation of a series of complex tests in a portfolio of cancer CTRU.

The research at the Division of Combustion concerns combustion and emissions formation in internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Job description

We are seeking a new PhD student to start in the spring or summer of 2011. The research will be conducted within the project described below.

Fuel sprays are critically important for modern engine development, but the mechanics of spray breakup are not well understood. One problem is that it has been very hard to study what happens just as the jet leaves the injector because a very dense cloud of droplets surrounds that area and makes it very difficult to observe what happens. Chalmers has been developing a new laser diagnostic technique named “ballistic imaging” that is capable of visualizing spray breakup inside this cloud (see this paper: “Ballistic Imaging of the Near Field in a Diesel Spray”, Mark Linne , Megan Paciaroni, Tyler Hall, and Terry Parker, Experiments in Fluids, 40, 836-846, (2006)).

Chalmers is purchasing a new 2-pulse femtosecond laser system that will allow us to perform measurements of the velocity of the liquid/gas interface.

The PhD student will work with;

Installing and running the diagnostic system.
Performing fundamental studies of spray breakup in various kinds of sprays, mostly at Chalmers but also at the University of Lund.
Helping to further develop this technique, in collaboration with a small community that uses it.

As a doctoral student you will have a main supervisor and associate supervisor(s). The project includes scientific research (Applied Physics, with an emphasis on ultrashort pulse techniques, optics, imaging, and image analysis) with some relevance to industry. You will present your research at scientific seminars and conferences. The project requires that you develop an ability to extract useful results from your research and to communicate these, verbally and in writing, in Swedish and in English. This is in addition to the general requirement of good basic knowledge within your chosen research field.

You will be employed as a doctoral student by Chalmers and will receive a salary according to current salary agreements. A maximum of 20% of your working time will be devoted to duties at the department in question, mainly teaching on bachelor and master level. The remaining time will be devoted to your own research education, where the aim is to complete your PhD examination within 5 years (nominal time without department duties is 4 years).

Required qualifications

The applicant should have a Master of Science (Swedish: civilingenjör) exam, preferably in Engineering physics or in Physics or with a similar background. Knowledge about lasers and laser lab work is advantageous.

Knowledge of the Swedish language is desirable but not a requirement. However, all PhD Students are expected to be able to teach in Swedish as well as in English after two years of employment. Those who do not have Swedish as their mother tongue are offered courses in the Swedish language.

This project focuses on development and promotion of environmentally friendly technology with respect to nano-and microparticles in particular.

Research Internship And Service Requirement:
* A 10-week, continuous, off-campus research internship at DHS or a DHS-affiliated facility will be required during the summer between your first and second year appointments. Internship placement will be coordinated through this program.
* A one-year, full-time service requirement in a relevant HS-STEM field will be required. This requirement will be fulfilled with paid employment or volunteer work that you will secure through traditional job search techniques. The work done during this service must be applicable to one of the 17 homeland security research areas. The one-year service commitment must be served at a DHS-approved STEM venue and must be completed within two years of your final stipend payment in most situations. If you plan to attend graduate school, the service requirement can be postponed but must be initiated within two years of your final stipend payment. Options for completing this service requirement at a DHS-approved STEM venue include full-time service for: (1) one continuous year; or (2) two six-month periods at no more than two locations.

Other Important Items:
* You must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university located in the United States or its territories during your appointment. However, this condition would not prohibit a student from doing some of their study or research at a foreign institution, with approval from DHS.
* If you are currently enrolled at a 2-year institution and you are awarded a scholarship, before you can accept the scholarship, you must be accepted at a 4-year institution that has agreed to accept your first two years of study as transfer credit.
* Because this scholarship has a required internship during the summer following the first year of support, students who plan to graduate in less than three semesters or four quarters once funding begins are not eligible.
* No deferrals of a DHS award, the internship component, or the service requirement will be allowed.
* Students in a 4-year joint baccalaureate-master’s degree program should apply in their second year of college attendance.
* Students in a 5-year joint baccalaureate-master’s degree program should apply in their second year or third year of college attendance.
* If you accept a DHS Scholarship, you cannot accept any other federal scholarships, fellowships, or grants while on your DHS appointment except educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and need-based assistance approved by DHS.

N G Stewart Scholarship at the University of Otago, New Zealand

The University of Otago, founded in 1869 by an ordinance of the Otago Provincial Council, is New Zealand’s oldest university. The new University was given 100,000 acres of pastoral land as an endowment and authorised to grant degrees in Arts, Medicine, Law and Music.

Detail:
The N G Stewart Scholarship was established in 2003 with funds bequeathed by Norman George Stewart (1913 – 1997) through the Stewart Coomb Trust.
Mr Stewart was Managing Director of the Dunedin company J K Mooney New Zealand Limited, an exporter of wool and skins, and also served as a Director of a number of Dunedin companies. After returning from service with the Royal Navy during the Second World War he became interested in
assisting with the rehabilitation of disabled servicemen in Dunedin. He served for many years as national Chairman of the Disabled Re establishment League and also served as Chairman of the Otago Foundation
from 1969 to 1992. He was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal in 1975 for his work with people with disabilities. Although he did not graduate from the University of Otago, Mr Stewart served on the Knox College Council
for many years and was also an enthusiastic advocate of the University of Otago.

Eligibility:
Candidates must:
• be a New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand permanent resident
• have a disability of at least six months or longer
• be intending to enrol, or already be enrolled in an undergraduate degree at the University of Otago.
A student who has held the scholarship may apply again for up to a further two years, provided that he or she continues to make satisfactory progress in all respects. In exceptional circumstances, an application may be considered from a candidate with a disability who does not meet all of the above criteria but whose situation presents similar barriers to attending university. Academic ability and commitment to the area of disability will be the primary criteria by which recipients are selected.

From 11-15 October 2010, EUROCLIO will be hosting the Online Seminar on “Cartoons and Multi perspectivity”. Aimed at teacher trainees, the seminar will focus on cartoons from the selected themes in 20th century history. Participants will debate the multiple perspectives that can be generated from these cartoons while identifying the biases with which they were created and disseminated.
Teacher training institutions from a wide range of countries, such as the University of Iceland, the University of Malta, Fontyns Hogeschool and Hogeschool van Amsterdam in The Netherlands, University of the West of England, University of Chichester, University of East Anglia, Edgehill University in Unit ed Kingdom, University of Pretoria and University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in

The South African SKA Project is a project of the Department of Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation and comprises Africa’s bid to host the Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope (SKA), the design, construction and operation of the Karoo Array Telescope (MeerKAT) and a youth into science and engineering programme focused on
supporting science and engineering students and postdoctoral fellows. Africa has been short-listed with Australia to host the SKA. If Africa is selected to site the SKA,the core of thetelescope will be located in the Karoo region of the Northern Cape withadditional stations distributed throughout South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius, Madagascar, Ghana and Kenya.
The SKA will:
• Revolutionize our understanding of the Universe
• Be completed by 2025 with a life-span of at least 50 years
• Be the next generation radio telescope for the global community
• Be continually upgradeable as computer power increases
• Use new technology antennas, signal transport, signal processing and computing in a
marriage between radio frequency technology and information and communication
technology.
• Consist of an array of 3000 antennas spread over 3000 km
To contribute towards the development of technology and science for the SKA, South Africa is building MeerKAT at the same site selected for the SKA. MeerKAT will be the most sensitive centimeter- wavelength radio telescope in the southern hemisphere, and will make significant contributions to both galactic and extragalactic astronomical research. MeerKAT will explore phenomena such as cosmic magnetism, the evolution of individual galaxies and clusters of galaxies, the influence of dark matter on galaxies and clusters, and the nature of transient radio sources. The first seven-antenna prototype array (KAT-7) is already being commissioned and will do science in 2011. The fullMeerKAT array of up to 80 dishes will start to do science in 2013.
Eligibility for scholarships from the SA SKA Postgraduate Scholarship Programme
The following students may apply for SA SKA Project postgraduate scholarships:
South African citizens and permanent residents of South Africa who wish to completean MSc or PhD degree at a South African university.
Non – South Africans from other countries in Africa who wish to complete an MSc or PhD degree at a South African university.
Non – South Africans who wish to complete an MSc or PhD degree at a university in an SA SKA Partner Country: Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya and Ghana.
Research topics and supervisions of research
The research focus for the SKA PhD and MSc scholarships must align very closely withspecific areas of MeerKAT, SKA, PAPER and C-BASS science and technology where research is required.
The MSc and PhD projects (particularly the astronomy projects) must include a component of practical skills development (e.g. data analysis and/or computer simulations) so that the student acquires the necessary skills to become a competent
(radio) astronomy researcher or engineer.
For 2011, the research projects must be in the following general fields:
• Observational radio astronomy and cosmology.
• Experimental cosmology
• Radio astronomy engineering and instrumentation technologies

All applicants (except NASSP MSc applicants – see section 4.8) MUST complete section five of the application form. This section refers to the details of the research project being proposed. Any application that does not include details of the research project being proposed will not be considered for a scholarship.
The SA SKA Project has partnered with a number of supervisors from who are available to supervise students. Table 1 lists the research topics that the partner supervisors have specified. Students will have to conduct their studies at the university
where the partner supervisor is based.

Alternatively, if a student wishes to undertake a project that does not appear on this list, he/she is free to submit a proposal for consideration, together with motivation for why the proposed project is relevant to the design, construction and scientific research
goals of the MeerKAT and / or SKA.

All SA SKA Project postgraduate scholarship-holders are required to be supervised by appropriately qualified and experienced academics linked to the university at which the student will be registered. Co-supervision by domain specialists within and outside the university is acceptable. All applications MUST include the details of the supervisor and must be submitted with the approval of the supervisor (see approvals, Section 6 ofthe application form). Any application that does not include the details of the supervisor or the approval of the supervisor (signature of the supervisor) will not be considered for a scholarship.

The SA SKA Project will also consider applications from students who wish to pursue an MSc or PhD degree through the National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP) hosted by the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Mission:

Carry out research and prepare a doctoral thesis in the area of geodesy
Assist the professors in their teaching activities, one to three hours per week.

Within the team's remit, which includes climate variability, geodynamics, resource management and regional processes, the team seeks to advance the techniques in the area of high precision Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS, in particular the GPS, to applications in, for example, natural hazard warning systems, sea level change and ice mass changes, glacial isostatic adjustment, plate tectonics and gravity field variations.

The proposed research topics cover the areas from real-time precise point positioning for high-rate GNSS to GNSS observation-level model improvements and time series analysis for long-term, global monitoring applications.

We have also perfected an experimental model of whole and partial mouse liver transplantation, allowing investigations into mechanisms of injury in liver grafts as well as immune mechanisms of rejection.
The current position is more specifically dedicated to a project about portal vein embolisation and liver regeneration for safer liver surgery and transplantation. Experiments will be performed in rodents. This project is fully funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF).

A joint project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Harry and Lynde Bradley Foundation, the Transatlantic Academy is located at the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Washington DC. The academy brings together scholars from Europe and North America to work on a set of related issues facing the transatlantic community. The academy is an interdisciplinary institution which is open to all social science disciplines, the humanities and the natural sciences. In the fellowship year which runs from September 2011-June 2012, the Academy is calling for applications from fellows who would like to conduct research on the broad complex of issues surrounding the implications of resource scarcity for the new geopolitical environment. The competition for natural resources, including energy, water and food has risen to the center of strategic concerns due to the rise of the new economic powers, especially China and India, a rapidly growing world population living in increasing numbers in urban environments, climate change and the vulnerability of sea lanes. The research must examine implications of these challenges for Europe and North America and consideration of common transatlantic approaches to deal with them. Among the research themes of interest are:

Eligible Candidates

A minimum of four senior and two junior scholars, three from Europe and three from North America, will work in a collaborative environment. Applicants for senior fellowships must have a PhD and have professional experience equivalent to that of an Associate Professor. Postdoctoral fellowship applicants must complete their PhD before the fellowship begins or within the last two years. Assistant Professors are also eligible for the junior fellowships.

Fellows will be expected to present their own research and to react to the work of their colleagues on a regular basis. They will also be expected to discuss their research with policy makers, non governmental organizations and other policy oriented institutions, both in the United States and Europe.

In addition to a generous monthly stipend, Fellows will receive travel expenses to and from the Academy and a research allowance.

Young Fulbright Visiting Student Program is designed especially to universities and other institutions to strengthen gradually.

U. S. Embassy is happy is a bonus for full-time studies at a single point to an academic institution in the United States in 2010-2011 granted to offer. The fields of environmental information, physical and natural sciences, social sciences, communication, economics, politics and administration of education, agriculture, including food safety, food science and technology, water and land resources, crop production and management in the context of priority is checked.

Objective

The Milena Jesenská Fellowship program offers European journalists working in print, broadcast and electronic media time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a European topic of their choice. The call for applications is directed towards cultural journalists, with the term ‘cultural’ interpreted in a broad sense to encompass a wide variety of artistic and intellectual fields.

Conditions

Milena Jesenská Fellows are invited to spend three months at the iwm in Vienna, Austria. Recipients of the fellowships are given a stipend of € 7.630 and are provided with an office, access to e-mail and Internet, in-house research facilities and other relevant resources in Vienna. Travel grants of up to € 1.820 will be available for research visits to neighboring countries.
